VIMC 2025 Information
1. Rationale
Mathematics is a fundamental tool for studying all subjects. It helps students understand the world and solve complex, real-world problems, improving their quality of life and fostering self-development.
The upper primary level of the Basic Education system equips students with essential skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. A mathematics learning program at this stage not only stimulates creativity but also develops critical and analytical thinking. By providing children with these higher-order thinking skills during the primary level, the “golden period of learning” significantly contributes to their learning development in secondary level.
2. Objectives
a) Organize an international mathematics competition for Key-Stage II (Upper Primary Level) and Key-Stage III (Lower Secondary Level) students.
b) Create a motivating academic atmosphere for teachers and students to improve mathematics teaching and learning, emphasizing the development of higher-order thinking skills.
c) Establish networks with international educational organizations for the development of teaching and learning of mathematics.
d) Provide young mathematics students from participating countries with opportunities to interact in a friendly environment, sharing both mathematical knowledge and cultural experiences.
e) Provide ideas for upgrading school mathematics curricula to meet international standards.
f) Provide mathematics teachers and parents of gifted students with an international forum to exchange best practices for improving mathematics teaching.
g) Empower teachers to optimize their problem-solving teaching skills in daily mathematics lessons.

4. Proposed Itinerary
Vietnam International Mathematics Competition 2025 (VIMC 2025) will be held in Danang City, Vietnam from 14th August – 19th August , 2025.

5. Participation and Application
5.1 Participation in the competition is by invitation only. Each team must consist of a maximum of six members: a team leader, a deputy team leader, and four students.
Each participating country is allowed to nominate at most: 02 (two) teams for the Key-Stage II and 02 (two) teams for the Key-Stage III.
If participating country sending more than one team, then the participating country can assign one team leader for each team or one team leader for all teams.
The VIMC 2025 organizer will provide meals and accommodation for a maximum of two teams per division per participating country during the official competition duration (August 14 to 19, 2025) in Da Nang City, Vietnam.
The IMC Executive Board and VIMC 2025 Organizer reserve the right to limit team entries from some countries to maintain a manageable competition size.
5.2 Divisions of Competition IMC is composed of 2 divisions:
a) Key Stage II Division (Upper Primary Level)
b) Key Stage III Division (Lower Secondary Level)
5.3 Participant conditions
a) Key Stage II:
- Students must not be enrolled in grade 7 in any school or equivalent institutions;
- Students must have been born on or after 14th August 2012.
- The organizer reserves the right to request any contestant submit a school letter to certify his/her enrolled grade for verification.
The contestants must satisfy both conditions or their results will not be given recognition.
b) Key Stage III:
- Students must not have been enrolled in grade 10 in any school or in any equivalent institutions;
- Students must have been born on or after 14th August 2009.
- The organizer reserves the right to request any contestant submit a school letter to certify his/her enrolled grade for verification.
The contestants must satisfy both conditions or their results will not be given recognition.
5.4 VIMC 2025 Contest Paper Official Languages:
Vietnamese, English, and Chinese will be the
official languages of the VIMC 2025 contest papers. Countries not using English, Chinese
or Vietnamese may translate the papers into their own languages.
5.5 Competition papers:
Each participating country must send ten proposed problems for each division, Key Stage II contest and the Key Stage III contest, using Word files and written in English, for both. The ten questions must consist of five questions for the individual contest and another five questions for the team contest. All in all, you must submit twenty questions.
The proposed questions must be submitted to the VIMC 2025 Academic Committee on or before 1st June, 2025, to allow sufficient time for question selection and paper preparation. Team leaders must NOT use the proposed problems, or similar ones, in training of contestants.
5.6 VIMC 2025 Technical Committee:
‧Members of the IMC Executive Board and Academic Committee;
‧Math experts from Vietnam.
5.7 Structure of the Contest Papers:
‧Individual Contest
a) EMIC: The individual contest consists of 15 questions, each worth 10 points, for a maximum total score of 150 points. Only Arabic numerals are to be entered in the designated spaces on the answer sheet.
Upon the Chief of Invigilator instruction to begin, students will have 90 minutes to complete the competition.
b) IWYMIC: The individual contest comprises 15 questions, 12 questions require only the answer to be written in the provided blanks, each worth 5 points. The remaining three questions require full solutions and are worth 20 points each (partial credit may be awarded according to the marking scheme). The maximum possible score is 120 points.
Upon the Chief of Invigilator instruction to begin, students will have 120 minutes to complete the competition.
‧Team Contest
The team contest comprises 10 problems presented in order of increasing difficulty; each problem is printed on a separate sheet of paper.
The four team members are given 10 minutes to discuss and distribute among themselves the first 8 questions. Each student must solve at least one question. (One problem may not be solved by two members.) No two team members should be given the same question to answer. Team members are not allowed to use a pencil or pen during the ten minutes discussion period.
Each student is allotted 35 minutes to independently complete the solutions to their assigned questions. Collaboration and discussion are not permitted.
The team, comprising four members, is allocated 25 minutes to collaboratively solve the final two questions, each worth 40 points. Questions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 require only the answer to be provided. Questions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 require complete solutions for full credit; however, partial credit may be awarded in accordance with the marking scheme. The total score is 400 points and the total time is 70 minutes.
5.8 Translation of Contest Paper:
The countries that need translation of the contest paper must send their intention to the VIMC 2025 Academic Committee before 25th July 2025. The countries requesting for translation of the contest papers will receive a declaration of confidentiality form from the Academic Committee. All persons involved in the translation must sign the form and send it back to the Academic Committee.
Translation of the contest papers will start after the team leaders’ meeting on 14th August, 2025. All translators will work together in a designated room.
5.9 Rules for the participants in the test venue:
o Participants are not allowed to bring books, scientific dictionaries, calculators, mobile phone, smart watch and other electronic devices into the contest venue.
o Participants must write using a black pen or HB, B or 2B pencil.
o Participants must write their ID number, name, and country on each page of their answer sheets.
o Full solutions are required for Key Stage III Part B and Team Contest questions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 for both Key Stages II and III; write them in the space provided. If more space is needed, use the back of the page and write “Continue on next page” (or “Please turn over”/”PTO” in large letters) clearly.
· After the contest, each team leader will score their students’
papers using the form provided by the jury.
5.10 Awards and Prizes:
(1) Individual Prizes: Approximately two-thirds of the contestants will receive Individual Awards, in the form of Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals as well as Merit certificates, in the approximate ratio of 1:2:3:4.
(2) Team Prizes: There are two Team Prizes, one based on the Individual Contest and another based on the Team Contest. Teams are divided into six groups of almost equal sizes.
(a) Team Prizes based on the Individual Contest (Group Award): The sum of the highest three scores among the four members of each team for the Individual Contest will be computed. In each group, prizes will be given to the three teams achieving the highest three sums. In the case of ties, precedence is given to the team with the highest score of the fourth team member. If teams remain in a tie, the VIMC 2025 Academic Committee will make a ruling.
(b) Team Prizes based on the Team Contest (Team Award): The total score of all ten problems is considered the team score. In each group, prizes will be given to one Champion, two First runners-up, three Second runners-up. The teams are ranked first by their total scores. Ties are broken according to the scores of individual problems, starting with the most difficult one. Further ties will be ruled on by the VIMC 2025 Academic Committee.
(3) Grand Prize: The Grand Prize is awarded according to the sum of the four team members’ scores in the Individual Contest and of the team’s score in the Team Contest. The maximum score is 4 x 150 + 400 = 1000 (for EMIC) and 4 x 120 + 400 = 880 (for IWYMIC). Second and Third Prizes are also awarded. Ties are broken according to the scores of the Team Contest. If teams remain in a tie, it will be broken according to the scores of individual problems, starting with the most difficult one. Further ties will be ruled on by the VIMC 2025 Academic Committee.
(4) Special Prize: In addition, a Special Awards will also be presented at the Closing Ceremony: Six teams presenting the best performances in the Cultural Night with exceptional merits in coordination, creativity and impression will receive awards as determined by the VIMC 2025 Organizing Committee.

Puzzle Challenge: In each division, Puzzle Challenge prizes will be given to
one Champion team, two First runners-up teams and three Second runners-up teams.
6. Period of Application and Procedure:
Each participating city or country must apply for participation in VIMC 2025.

Link for submitting team information will be emailed to each coordinator privately.
7. Expenses:
a) The organizer will be responsible for all accommodation, meals and sightseeing expenses of maximum of 2 teams in each division during the official competition time in Danang City, Vietnam.
b) Excess participants, observers, parents and other accompanying persons will be required to pay USD 650 per person during the official competition time. The payment is due on the arrival day and by cash in USD only.
c) Each participating team is responsible for all travel expenses from their hometown to Danang City, including, but not limited to, travel insurance, Vietnamese visa fees, and airfare to and from Danang International Airport (DAD).
d) Any non-registered person will not be allowed to enter into any event or activity area.
e) Allocating/Moving of the number of teams to different divisions is not allowed. For example, your country plans to send three Key stage II and one Key stage III teams, then you must still pay one extra team for the extra Key Stage II team.
8. Additional Information:
Each participant team should do the following:
– Inform the organizer in advance of any specific dietary or food restrictions.
– Obtain a Vietnamese visa (if required) before entering Vietnam. Visit these links for more information:
– Prepare one cultural performance per country for a maximum of 3 minutes and bring with them all materials or costumes required for the performance.
– Arrange medical insurance for their participants.
– Bring personal items such as: medicines, bath towel, toiletries, slippers, swimsuit, hat, umbrella, etc..
